Open Maker

2018 saw the start of the first group commissions as Salford Makers

Lead by textile artist Sally Gilford Salford Makers set out to cross collaborate and create fantastic new work.

With each of their separate commissions being designed to the same brief, all the work produced had an undeniable thematic but with enough room to still allow each artist to show their individual style. The work created was made to be sold in the Salford Makers SHOP that opened in November 2018 through to January 2019.

As part of the collaboration Natalie Linney and Cheryl O’Meara, a textile surface designer and owner of Print Pattern Archive created digital interpretations of eco prints originally printed using natural processes.  Commenting on the project Natalie said

This was the first opportunity I have had to translate my natural prints into digital pattern designs. We scanned in different parts of my eco prints and manipulated them into repeat patterns. It was a great experience for me to see what different ways I can push my work, and how to translate something very unique into digital designs.”
