Lockdown Landscapes

Since January I have been working on this beautiful project which aims to capture pademic stories through art & community engagement.

Working with socially prescribed groups in Burton On Trent, we created work responding to the natural spaces the group had access to during lockdown.

The project led by the National Arboretum, The National Forest Company, Westminister Abbey, ArtReach & supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, will be opening June 4th at The National Arboretum.

The 20 month long nationwide project commemorates the key workers & those who lost their lives during the COVID pandemic.

A huge thank you to Anna for getting me involved in this project & having the faith in me to print 20m of silk with participants!

And the biggest thank you to the amazing group of humans I met & worked with during this project. It was wonderful working with you all. Thank you for sharing your skills & for your enthusiasm.
I cant wait to see you at the opening!

Making Dyeing Materialising

In October I was part of an interdisciplinary project lead by Dr Laura Pottinger & Dr Alison Browne, exploring what natural dying practices can show us about the environmental ruination & pollution legacies from the cotton industry.

With artists & researchers Hayley Caine & Ally Lomas we held two days of workshops in the Manchester University Geography labs to look at different ways we could affect natural dyes with pollutant metals found in samples from sites around the North West.

Following on from this project we were able to secure a Simon Industrial Fellowship for me to take part in a three month residency with The Cottonopolis Collective & Manchester University Geography labs. The work we create during my residency will be exhibited during the British Textile Biennial in September this year!

A huge thank you to everyone involved & a special thank you to Quarry Bank Mill for generously donating fabric to this project.

I am really excited & privileged to have been selected along with six other amazing artists to deliver #GrowingColourTogether this year!

Over the next few months we will be working with local people to turn Kirklees into a colour garden for WOVEN festival 2023.

Growing Colour Together aims to develop a shared love of nature through an exploration of textiles. Connecting people with a love of growing & enhancing knowledge of climate change though our work with natural dyes.

Artists are working in three areas with local communities to research, develop & produce a shared piece of art & together create dye gardens for all.

I loved making these cards!
Images were collaged by year 6 pupils who helped decide on some new people to be included in our pack.
Information about all the amazing people past & present was then added so the school can keep on learning now I have gone 😊
